Ashley McCauley // Motherhood
Meet Ashley. She is a stay at home mom & owner of Ashley McCauley Photography. Her job blesses her with so much flexibility that she mostly feel like I'm a stay at home mom with a fun hobby! She has 1 boy Wyatt (20 months) and another son on the way late this Fall!!
What does the role of "mother" mean to you?
It is the best and hardest role of my life! I find it hard to define in my own words. The role of a mother is different for every mother. We are raising children who are each their own, created for an individual purpose and we are raising these children in different environments. My encouragement to all my mommy friends is to be obedient to the Lord's calling and shaping of YOU as a mom. My role is constantly changing, but so is my child. The more I learn about my son, the more I adapt to how I parent.
What is the best advice you have ever received when it comes to motherhood?
Watching my parents love and honor one another played a big part in my own testimony. I witnessed my mother speak highly of my father & encourage him in front of us. I think it’s so important to cheer on your husband as he becomes a father and give him grace when he fails. Women can be more nurturing and considerate of things... especially when it comes children. There have been times I got frustrated with my husband because he didn't do something "correctly" with Wyatt and I missed out the opportunity of cheering him on for trying. The Lord is forming and shaping his role as a father too! With adulthood has come the word community. I would hear a lot about its goodness and now truly understood this goodness first hand being surrounded with sweet community as a mother. I am so grateful for the mothers I get to do life with. A lot of us live within walking distance/short drive from one another. Start up a group text with some mommy friends. Sometimes you just need someone to talk to about “mommy/baby stuff”. I go to these friends with questions and am often left with insight and encouragement.
How do you like to spend days with your little one?
Each day is different and obtains many unexpected moments and memories. We are currently trying to fight off the Texas, summer heat! We spend a lot of time in our home and I'm learning to love our space the Lord has blessed us with. Each square foot of our home has a sweet memory. We love to go on walks and hang out at parks too. My son loves to learn and help. Sometimes he wants to help me clean the house or help dada with a project in the garage. I love that he just wants to be a part of what we are doing.
What do you find most important in your role as a mother?
The Lord has given me discernment that no one else will have for the children he blesses me with. It's my role as a mother to raise our children by example. This has been so sanctifying. Especially with a son that mimics and repeats everything I do and say. My hope is that my example of love and obedience, will instill a desire to know God and to love Him. I wouldn't be the mother I am without my husband, Matt. His role as a husband and father encourages me more than anything!
