Laura Markum // Motherhood

Meet Laura Markum and her sweet lil girl Ember. Laura is a stay at home mom & farmer in Denton,TX.

What does the role of "motherhood" mean to you?

A parent is a kids impression of the world. To me the role of motherhood means teaching my daughter, and hopefully future kids, about the world and about God. Loving her, no matter how stressed I may be. Teaching her through example, whether it's how to cook or feed chicken or read or be patient or say sorry or forgive. And hopefully she will be independent, loving towards people and the Lord by the time she reaches adulthood.

What is the best advice you have ever received when it comes to motherhood?

Go with the flow!

How do you like to spend days with your little one?

We get up every morning and have breakfast, feed all the animals (dogs, cat, chickens, duck, and sheep). If it's a nice day we go outside and play or work on the farm or have a picnic. If its cold we hang out inside and read books or clean the house. If I'm lonely we go visit other moms with kids or my parents. Sometimes we visit dad at work but she is a little lively for coffee shops.

What do you find most important in your role as a mother?

I think it's really important to have patience and grace as a mother -- for my daughter and for myself! It's important to learn how to forgive myself for not being a perfect mother and to not blame her for being a child who needs her mama.
