Allison Guffey // Motherhood

Meet Allison. She has been married to her husband Matt for almost 6 years, and they have 2 boys. Connor (5) and Asher (15 months). She gets the best of both worlds by working part time for an OB/GYN and staying home with her boys the rest of the time.

What does the role of "mother" mean to you?

Being a mother means self sacrifice. That like Christ, we lay our lives, our bodies, our free time, and our own desires down for the good of our children.

What is the best advice you have ever received when it comes to motherhood?

Best advice I've received is that motherhood is a mission field.

How do you like to spend time with your little ones?

I like to spend the days with my boys playing outside, at the library, or at home. With Connor being 5 I really enjoy playing games with him one on one and using that time to talk to him. Asher, on the other hand, eats everything so I watch his every move to make sure he doesn't put the wrong thing in his mouth! :/

What do you find most important in your role as a mother?

In my role as mother, I find that what is most important is viewing everyday as an opportunity to serve and raise men. That plays itself out in smaller ways. For example, using teachable moments, asking forgiveness, extending grace, loving my spouse well, praying for and encouraging them. I fail daily at these things, but showing my children my weakness is really the best gift I can give them.
